OOM: Road Trip, Cawker City KS

There really isn't much in Cawker City, Kansas. There's a historic pipe organ, a lake, and a golf course. And, by Laini's estimates, hardly enough people living there to qualify Cawker City as an actual city.

But it does have one other thing, and that's the reason she suggested this place to Mother.

The World's Largest Ball of Twine.

Now, why exactly would a touring kitsune like to see something like this?

Mar. 31st, 2010

It's the last day that they're stuck in Salt Lake City. (Or at least, it should be the last day. If the mechanic actually goes over his estimated time, both Laini and Mother will have quite a few words to say to him.)

The two have already exhausted all the wierd, 'paranormal', or otherwise interesting sights in town- or at least, they have certainly worn out their welcome at the 'Gravity Well', and nothing else seems that appealing. So, Laini and Mother are simply hanging out in the hotel room, trying to entertain themselves. Mother is looking over a road atlas, and cheerfully whistling, while Laini-

Laini is cursing the current Stone Age of the internet. Even with a more-magic-than-tech connection, there simply isn't much there at all. Cue the fifth roll of her eyes as 'SUBJECT NOT FOUND' flashes on her screen, before Laini finally takes notice of Mother's whistling.

Mother's cheerful whistling.

Her ears perk, and Laini glances over.

"... road atlas?"

Hopefully the question is open-ended enough.

OOM: Road Trip

Quite a while after this.

There's only so far someone can go on adrenaline- even adrenaline helped by a couple doses of Trucker's Delight. Laini's even offered Mother some of her caffiene stash, but after driving for ten hours in the general direction of away from Black Mesa and any car that even remotely looks like The Law-

Mother is ready to crash.

But by mutual consent, both of them don't think they're far enough away to stop.

Laini's already gotten a nice long nap, though.

This means one thing.

Via Laini's laptop, via a magi-tech connection, via her router in her room in Milliways-

Duo and Riley both have an email waiting in their inbox, should they decide to try to check their email at Milliways.

Hopefully you guys will think to check your emails while at Milliways- sometimes the worldwide net doesn't like to work for people there, depending on things in their world. Anyhoo- I figured out a connection router that should let me send stuff from other worlds to Milliways- we'll see how it goes! ^_^ I'll especially see if this goes through before I start sending pixs, as I wouldn't want them to end up as roadkill on the information super highway.

As for the internet here-

My poor laptop is having fits. Things are in the stone age, comparatively- Earthside, 1993, I think? Computers here are Neanderthals- or even pre-that. As in, just barely to the point of burying their dead, rather than eating them. Or at least the technological version. Hopefully we won't need any fast and fancy hackwork on this trip- Mother says we're just checking out interesting sites that he's heard about at Milliways, to see if anything similar is happening in his world.

We're leaving San Fran, and heading up North to check out some volcano. Out in the boondocks when it comes to civilization- it's doubtful I'll find a decent coffeeshop anywhere in the area.

Love and Gropes-

Jul. 2nd, 2009

[From here, abouts.]

Laini really wasn't joking about it being good for Mother to have a friend on the 'outside'. After a quick, Reassuring Phonecall, she starts getting to work.

Most of the stashing and storing Laini pulled off with their vaguely contraband (or at least, incriminating) goods worked- the cops only found a few boxes of condoms, the inflatable sheep that popped before they could use it, and a few m80's. And while the condoms and m80's could be totally coincidental, that sheep certainly wasn't- so the whole lot got dragged off when the RV was parked in the impound lot next to the police station.

While the cops might think they locked it- they didn't. Not where Laini's concerned.

(And thank god they did not find any of her hardware.)

It's easy enough for her to set things up quickly, and even easier to hack into the station's computer system. Really so much easier. Her Perfectly Normal laptop is from about 10 years in the future of this time, and that's also ten years advancement of the internet and various other programs-

Using magic in a time like this would almost be unsporting.

She settles cross-legged on the floor in the back of the RV, laptop balanced on her knees, various other pieces of hardware connected by cables to it, surrounding her on the floor. Laini's grin is less human, and more of a fox spotting an oblivious rabbit.

"Right-o." Laini's fingers fly over the keyboard, and she types in a few commands which show up on a spare (holographic) screen to her right.

Run: Search Recent Records
Parameters: x, x-1 x+1 date; Darryl 'Mother' Roskow (see: Mother.jpg); Black Mesa; Winnabago (see batmobile.jpg)
Command: Seek and Destroy

She raises an eyebrow, and glances at the spare screen. The green beetles in their virtual 'cage' pause by the lines of information, then scurry off-screen. Laini grins, then starts on the station's security.

... Alas, this time period is too early for everything to be automated. Woe. Her ears flatten, and she taps her fingers on the side of the laptop. The problem with pre-Age of Technology?

Is that oftentimes you have to go and do things yourself.

With a long suffering sigh, she pulls up some programs that will work on the prehistoric system the cops here are calling 'computer security', and downloads a few others to her PDA. Setting the laptop on the floor (underneath the table so it won't get stepped on- Laini isn't stupid), she stands up. Thankfully she's still in her ninja outfit from the Black Mesa hijinks-

Laini just has a few other tricks to grab before she heads next door to break Mother out of jail.

At a time WAY too early in the morning...

OKCupid Dating Quiz!

Playful, kind, and well-loved, you are The Peach.

Random Gentle Love Master (RGLM)

For such a warm-hearted, generous person, you’re surprisingly experienced in both love and sex. We credit your spontaneous side; you tend to live in the moment, and you don’t get bogged down by inhibitions like most women your age. If you see something wonderful, you confidently embrace it.

You are a fun flirt and an instant sweetheart, but our guess is you’re becoming more selective about long-term love. It’s getting tougher for you to become permanently attached; and a guy who’s in a different place emotionally might misunderstand your early enthusiasm. You can wreck someone simply by enjoying him.

Your ideal mate is adventurous and giving, like you. But not overly intense.

Of course, a lot of things can happen when you have two geeks stuck in an RV for an extended road trip.
